Sleep apnea

Take the next step toward understanding your sleep.

Snoring, breathing pauses noticed by a partner, or daytime sleepiness are worth discussing with a healthcare professional. Monroe ENT Associates offers a place to begin a conversation about sleep apnea and the evaluation appropriate to your concerns.

New and established patients can make an appointment through the portal. Call the office if you need help accessing it.

What is sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea is a condition in which breathing repeatedly stops and restarts during sleep. In obstructive sleep apnea, the upper airway becomes blocked during sleep. A clinical evaluation is needed to understand whether sleep apnea is contributing to your symptoms.

Start with your experience

Tell the clinician about your sleep, daytime symptoms, and any concerns a partner or family member has noticed. If you have already had a sleep study or have been treated for sleep apnea, bring those records and information about your current treatment.

  • How often you snore or wake gasping
  • Any observed breathing pauses
  • How sleepiness affects your day
  • Previous sleep studies or current treatment

Evaluation and next steps

Diagnosing sleep apnea may involve a sleep study. The appropriate next step depends on your symptoms, medical history, and any existing diagnosis or test results. Your clinician can discuss what further evaluation is needed and how to approach care decisions.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Does snoring mean I have sleep apnea?

I already have a diagnosis. Can I discuss my concerns?

Call the office about the reason for your visit and the records you should bring. Include information about your current treatment and the concerns you want to address.
